belize real estate

Ever wanted to own your own Island or maybe a beautiful home in a culturally rich and warm climate that is not overpopulated? Belize may be the place you are looking for. Nestled on the Caribbean coast of Central America, this small sovereign nation is ripe in culture, warm year-round in climate and prime in beautiful tropical Belize real estate.

Belize is the only Central American country that has English as the official language, making it ideal for USA citizens to visit, retire or purchase a vacation home. Until 1981, Belize was a colony under the control of the British Empire, when at that time the country declared its independence and became a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Buying Belize real estate is quite easy for foreigners. Since the legal system is based on the common laws of England, foreign ownership of land is handled in the same manner as in the United States. Once you find a piece of Belize real estate you have an interest in purchasing, you can hire an agent and attorney to handle the title search, transfer and sales agreement just like in the USA.

If you have a desire to purchase a private island as well, there are more than a few within the Belize real estate territory. One island found just off the coast of Belize is nearly 19 acres, and resplendent with coconut grooves and magnificent shorelines touching the Caribbean. A price tag of just about two and one half million US dollars, and you own it. Of course if that figure is a little out of your range, there are smaller island choices on the Belize real estate market under half a million US dollars.

Once you have purchased your dream home (or island) you can cruise over to one of Belize’s major national attractions, the Great Blue Hole, a massive sinkhole, near the coastline. This natural wonder attracts thousands of tourists each year. Jacques Coustea, the famous underwater explorer, brought this attraction to international fame in 1971, when he explored it in his ship, the Calypso. The gorgeous area surrounding the Great Blue Hole is known as the Belize Barrier Reef, approximately half of all tourists to Belize come to the Great Blue hole as their primary reason for visiting the country. Because it is part of the National Park, there are no Belize real estate parcels in close proximity.

The diverse culture of Belize includes Mayan settlers as early as the first millenium,Mexican and Spanish settlers form the early 1800s, US citizens (who began settling after the Civil War in the 1860’s), while Asian descendents arrived in the early 1900s Central American immigrants (from the mid 1900s) as well as recent immigrants from the world over looking to own a piece of Belize real estate. Today, the culturally diverse country is witness to almost every ethnicity on earth, much like the ‘melting pot’ of the USA.
