Reviewed as the most popular American animation series over the last ten years, SpongeBob SquarePants show has made a history in entertainment. The father of the characters is a former marine biologist, Stephen Hillenburg who created the show through the company he owned: United Plankton Pictures. The show can be watched on Nicktoons Network, and it has been often reviewed as one of the greatest television shows in history, on several occasions. The pilot episode of SpongeBob SquarePants show was broadcast on May 1, 1999, followed by other episodes that gained more popularity from 2000 onwards.

There is no continuity between the episodes in SpongeBob SquarePants show, which makes it perfect for anyone to watch it without having to refer back to previous contexts and events. Many of the characters have a tragic fate, but they are soon returned to normal. Eugene Krabs’ restaurant in Bikini bottom gets destroyed several times, and every time it seems like it’s the end. Lots of these apparently horrific events blamed on SpongeBob’s mishaps. The great part of this cartoon series is that adults and children can watch it alike: the episodes often contain subtleties that reflect the absurdity of life for instance, which will escape the understanding of young watchers.

One of the elements that differentiates SpongeBob SquarePants show from lots of Nickelodeon productions is the participation of lots of independent musicians to the soundtrack of the series. Flaming Lips, Wilco or Twisted Sister are just a few names here, but David Bowie for instance played as a special guest in the Atlantis SquarePantis episode in November 2007. This episode registered the largest audience level in the entire history of the SpongeBob SquarePants show. Then, one further reflection of the series into the music world was at the initiative of Metallica consisting in the release of t-shirts featuring Patrick and SpongeBob playing live with the group members.

With the increased popularity of the show in the United States and in other parts of the world MTV started broadcasting it, this time targeting the teenage audience-group category. Some famous quotes from the series became part of slang, as it is the case with the famous quote from Mid-Life Crustacean: It’s gonna rock! The quote was taken over by rock radio stations and soon entered the language of many rock fans and adolescents. SpongeBob SquarePants show has definitely laid its imprint on American television, and it is good to think it can give a great laugh out pretext!
